Chloe Ward Bio

Chloe Ward has always been amazed by the power of music to tell stories, express spirituality, and connect communities. She grew up in a musical family and learned piano at age seven; since then, she has earned her bachelor’s degree in songwriting at Webster University and is building her own musical career. Chloe is currently working as a worship leader and co-director of the Mountain Service at Webster United Methodist Church and continues to create original music. Through her songs, she hopes to give people a chance to feel seen, heard, understood, and a little less alone.

SONGWRITING

Chloe’s own music has been described as vulnerable, well-crafted, expressive, and impactful. In 2019, she won third place in her Pop/CCM competition group at the Write About Jesus conference for her song “I’m Here.” She would describe her genre as acoustic singer-songwriter; she writes about the most vulnerable and intimate experiences in her life, and hopes to bring that rawness and authenticity to her sound.

As a Christian songwriter, Chloe loves taking topics from church and the Bible and describing them in new ways. Her debut single “Sophia” was inspired by Lady Wisdom in Proverbs 8. The proverb says, “Does not wisdom call out? Does not understanding raise her voice?” (Proverbs 8:1 NIV). In Chloe’s interpretation, one of the lyrics says, “I hear your voice in the streets; it’s the loveliest sound, and it’s calling to me.”

Aside from her Christian music, Chloe also writes songs about life, ranging from topics like romance and heartbreak to friendship and comfort in the midst of grief. Her song “Are You Ever?” portrays the playful thoughts of a girl with a crush, landing the chorus with the line, “Are you ever gonna ask me out?” On the other hand, in her song “I’m Here” she writes these lines from the perspective of comforting a friend: “If what you need is to break, I’ll hold you together until you’re whole again.”

For Chloe, music has always been a source of clarity and expression. She listens to songs that she can relate to because they bring her a deep sense of peace, and she hopes that her writing would accomplish the same thing for others. She writes the songs that she needs to hear and uses her storytelling to impact her listeners as well.

WEBSTER

During her education at Webster, Chloe was taught by professors such as Melissa Bishop, Debby Lennon, and Nick Schleuter. Since Webster encouraged her to be creative and collaborate with her peers, she has been able to co-write with songwriters like Rachel Deschaine, Leo Diamant, and Jack Harre (aka J.X.O.). Webster also allowed her to experience music outside of her genre; she was a part of Webster’s treble choir, Aurelia, for four years and spent a year in jazz music theory learning to improvise and compose jazz tunes.

LIVE SHOWS

Starting at Webster but going far beyond, Chloe has had the opportunity to perform her own music at live shows. She has performed her original songs at the Community Music School in Webster Groves, the Thompson Music Building, the Webster Groves Garden Cafe, the Blue Strawberry, and the Heavy Anchor.

WORSHIP

Chloe has been passionate about worship and congregational music from a young age. In high school, she played piano and sang for New City Fellowship Church’s youth group every week, and eventually started playing for the Sunday worship team as well. Starting in 2019, Chloe spent a year working for Pathfinder Church in Ellisville as a music ministry intern. There, she played piano, led band rehearsals, and directed services for a congregation of around 2,000 people. Today, she leads worship weekly as co-director of the Mountain Service at Webster United Methodist Church. This intimate, Thursday night worship service draws in young adults and gives them a space to explore their faith.

TEACHING

In the summer of 2021, Chloe began her teaching career with Salvation Army’s Midland Music. At their summer music camps, she taught music theory and piano to students aged 7-12. From August of 2022 until January of 2024, she taught one-on-one piano lessons at the School of Rock in Kirkwood as well as their group class for ages 6-7 called “Rookies.”
